Us and the Outdoors
Our ancestors lived a very simple life with little shelter and no technology. They spent most of their time outside, either hunting for food or planting vegetation to eat. The human body went through this outdoor routine for thousands of years before the development of intricate buildings and processed foods that now keep us locked indoors for most of our lives.
The point is, the human body has developed and evolved as something that regularly spends time outside. Our culture and American lifestyle goes against these necessary urges to be outdoors and instead has us sitting behind a computer indoors all day.

Yes, the sun can cause sunburn, skin cancer, aging, and damage your eyes, but these are all after extreme exposure. When managed properly, being outdoors can give you energy, and help cheer up your mood. Biologically, the sun is involved with one of the most important vitamins in our system, Vitamin D |
Vitamin D
Vitamin D is one of the most essential elements to proper health and you can get sufficient amounts of it just by going outside regularly. And yet, thousands of people everyday don't meet this simple requirement. Most of the U.S. only steps outside to go from a building to their car. This has to change!!! Vitamin D plays a HUGE role in bone development and proper bone structuring. Without it, you wouldn't be able to absorb calcium and phosphates that make your bones strong, regardless of the amounts of these substances you ate.
That's not all. Vitamin D also plays a huge part in the overall health of the body:

Vitamin D & That Glowing Tan
Everyone wants that golden brown look, but it is important to realize that to much sunlight can be cancerous and cause a lot of damage to your skin. A tan is a protective mechanism of your body to try to protect itself from the excessive harmful rays of the sun. The key component to this mechanism is melanin.
Melanin collects in your skin and acts as a natural sunscreen to protect you from the extra hours in the sun. The problem is that is also consumes the Vitamin D that your body needs to absorb. Therefore, darker skinned people need to be in the sun for a longer amount of time in order to receive adequate amounts of Vitamin D. For example, a fair skinned person can get sufficient amounts of Vitamin D from being in the sun for 10-15 minutes. On the other hand, a darker skinned individual needs to be in the sun for an hour or two to receive the same amount of Vitamin D. So get outside and receive the gifts of the sun, but be smart and be safe while doing so.
